If you're currently employed as a pathology worker, successful completion of this skill set will give you the unit of competency, HLTPAT005 Collect specimens of drug of abuse testing.
This qualification is directly aligned with priority industry areas where jobs are today, and into the future. As part of the state government Lower fees, local skills program, through to 31 December 2025 you'll only pay half the tuition fees (plus resource fee) capped at $1,200; or $400 if you're aged 15—24 or eligible for a concession.

This skill sets suits anyone currently employed in a collection centre, hospital, or other health care environment where drugs of abuse testing takes place, e.g. you may be a phlebotomist, an emergency nurse, or work in the mining industry.
Successful completion of this skill set will give you the unit of competency, HLTPAT005 Collect specimens of drug of abuse testing. This unit is required to conduct National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA) accredited drug testing.
This skill set will only run with sufficient enrolments.
You'll learn how to
• collect breath alcohol specimen for screening and testing of alcohol
• collect oral fluid (saliva) specimen collection of the screening of drugs.
• collect urine specimen for the screening of drugs
• prepare and despatch oral and urine specimens to an authorised laboratory for further screening or analysis
to the standard required for drug testing according to Australian and NZ standards and industry code of practice.
