Clean Energy Careers

Leading the way in skills development for Western Australia’s clean energy future.

We aim to work with industries to skill the workforce that will help deliver NetZero.

Our network of connected training facilities across Perth trains more than 25,000 students annually for jobs across our economy including a wide range of traditional energy-powered trades.

With capability in our training and partnerships for the delivery of solar, wind, electric vehicle, hydrogen and battery storage technology, North Metropolitan TAFE is working with industry to meet the workforce needs of our national clean energy sector.

We work closely with our partners to provide paraprofessional training across a wide range of trade skill areas. Our longstanding partnerships with Western Australian energy providers and the resources sector have placed us in an excellent position to design and deliver the emerging skills needed by industry.

Our Clean Energy Skills Roundtable is leading the charge to steer the development of new and emerging skillsets required by industry to meet the immediate and future challenges of a clean energy future for Western Australia.

We are a member of the Australian Clean Energy Council, contributing our expertise to the broader industry conversation about skills and workforce development.

Our cross - campus approach

As the clean energy sector grows, demand for professionals with electrical, civil and mechanical skills will increase to support the development, installation, operations and maintenance of renewable energy technologies.
Our bright sparks are ready with a range of future-focused enhancements to our training delivery, learning areas, workshops, equipment and resources with changes already underway at several of our campuses to support training in wind, solar, batteries and energy transformation.

In addition to existing electrotechnology training, 2024 will see the opening of a $47.9 million investment to redevelop our Balga campus. This will include a training workshop for emerging sustainable construction technologies and enhanced capability in smart home technology, including connectivity to the grid, and data analysis and communications to minimise energy use.

Our award-winning Green Skills Training Centre is equipped to deliver electrical and renewable energy training, including access to maintain and repair grid-connected solar systems. Our existing partnerships with Western Power and Horizon Power provide practical hands-on training solutions in electrical fitting for the maintenance of Stand Alone Power Systems. At this campus, we have also been delivering Resource Processing traineeships for lithium and are exploring new technologies for battery storage in lithium and vanadium.

A $20.4 million Electric Automotive Training Centre is under construction to deliver future-fit training in electric and hybrid vehicle technology, with future capability for training in autonomous vehicles and heavy vehicles using hydrogen fuel cells.

Co-located with a broad range of existing trades training we are investing $3.24 million to install wind turbines and a working-at-heights training tower. We are working towards Global Wind Organisation (GWO) certification and will deliver courses in vertical rescue skills, hazard awareness and renewable energy storage. The centre will be a Western Australian first.
