After completing an Advanced Diploma of Graphic Design at NMTAFE, Kevin Wilson co-founded his own Aboriginal-led creative agency, Nani Creative(opens in a new tab) .
In 2021, Kevin was one of NMTAFE's Ambassador and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student of the Year.
“NMTAFE helped me to find my calling and set a direction for my life,” he said.
“I’ve been interested and inspired by art since I was a kid and fell into the world of graffiti as a teen."
"I thought it was the coolest thing seeing these people who knew nothing about composition, and colour theory, create these amazingly produced works," Kevin added.
“After a few years, and a few too many run-ins with the police, I decided that I couldn’t keep going down that path, so I signed up at North Metropolitan TAFE," he said.
Recently, Kevin’s design, along with Taryn Woods, was worn by the West Coast Eagles football team for the Sir Douglas Nicholls round in May this year.
The design on the guernsey highlights the importance of family and connection, featuring totems of each of the team's First Nations players’ families, along with several connections to the club.
One striking element of the design is ’56 sharp points’, representing the First Nations players drafted since the Eagles’ inception, symbolising the strong warriors who paved the way, and continue to watch over the players carrying the legacy.
The kangaroo and emu were designed by Woods, symbolising the players always moving forward and progressing as a team.
Well done Kevin and Taryn!
